Claude Desktop stops sending tools/call to local stdio MCP servers
A GitHub issue reports that Claude Desktop suddenly stopped dispatching tools/call requests to local stdio MCP servers on all instances launched after about 18:29 UTC on 2026-07-21.
- initialize and tools/list still work normally, but the server never receives tools/call on stdin.
- The failure appears as “Tool execution failed” / “Failed to call tool.”
- Two independent Windows 11 machines reproduced the issue.
- Remote connectors such as Google Drive still worked in the same sessions.
- A separate Claude Code v2.1.216 setup on the same machine, account, and server binary continued dispatching tools correctly.
The reporter concludes the pattern looks like a startup-fetched server-side change rather than a local package or reboot issue.
