Reddit says Microsoft AI is still behind on coding models
NormandyPark0 · reddit · 2026-07-22
A Reddit post argues that Microsoft’s AI team (MAI) is still lagging badly on coding and general intelligence.
- The author contrasts MAI with frontier labs, saying Kimi K3 is close to US frontier models and DeepSeek V4 is about 90% of frontier intelligence at roughly 5% of the cost.
- They claim MAI has not submitted MAI-Thinking-1 or MAI-Code-Flash to Artificial Analysis, and read that absence as a sign the team is behind.
- The post says Microsoft’s audio and image models are reportedly frontier-level and cost-efficient for internal Copilot use, but that the company still needs a stronger coding/general-purpose model to move the stock.
