Anthropic engineer launches a Mac app for training small language models locally
Felix Rieseberg, an Anthropic/ElectronJS engineer, released Language Model Builder, a free Mac app for people who want to train their own LLMs from scratch.
The app says that with default settings, users can get a model producing coherent multi-paragraph text in about a day. On a MacBook Pro M5 Max, it claims you could train a GPT-2-small-class model of roughly 100–150M parameters on a few billion tokens in about a week.
The product is explicitly framed as a learning tool, not a way to build frontier models like Claude or ChatGPT.
