Tackling AI Slop: Economist Suggests Opt-in Disclosure Tags for AI Text

Economist John Horton discussed the issue of "AI Slop" in a thread. He points out that people don't actually mind AI-generated text they commissioned themselves; what they dislike is others passing off AI text as their own.

To address this, he proposes a product idea: give authors a tag to explicitly mark AI-generated text. AI detection tools (like Pangram) could then skip tagged content. This would save inference costs and promote honest disclosure among authors, rather than encouraging endless AI cat-and-mouse detection games.
