AutoIndex defines a representation program as the logic behind search indexing

The post explains that every search system has a program mapping raw documents into searchable representations. That program determines what becomes a retrieval unit, what context is preserved, which signals are amplified, and what structure the retriever can see.
This is what the authors call a "representation program," and it is the object AutoIndex tries to learn.
