Debunking Flawed Econ Models: Why Traditional AGI GDP Predictions Fail
sebkrier · x · 2026-07-22
Responding to conservative predictions from traditional economic models (like Acemoglu's) that AGI will bring negligible GDP growth, the author counters with several key arguments:
- Labor vs. Capital: They remain distinct concepts because positional goods exist, providing multiple ways to argue their ongoing economic relevance.
- Comparative Advantage Persists: Under any reasonable post-ASI model, comparative advantage still works in favor of humans. Arguments suggesting human labor value will fall below subsistence levels are deemed flimsy.
- Nature of AI Entities: AI currently does not consist of individual agents but rather an infinitely mutating meta-entity soup of intelligence. Trading with AI at scale is essentially trading with shards representing the legal personhood and intent of their human patrons.
