Judge approves Anthropic’s $1.5 billion book piracy settlement with authors

A federal judge has approved Anthropic’s $1.5 billion class-action settlement with authors who said the company trained its models on copyrighted books.

According to the order, the settlement is meant to provide “meaningful relief” and would pay authors roughly $3,000 per allegedly pirated book. The plaintiffs’ lawyers say it is the largest known copyright recovery in history.
