Open-source TTS list sorts models by license before quality for commercial shipping
mahimairaja · reddit · 2026-07-21
A Reddit post shares a curated open-source TTS reference list organized by license first and quality second, arguing that commercial shippability matters more than small quality differences.
The list highlights models that are actually MIT/Apache-licensed and deployable, including Chatterbox Multilingual v3, Kokoro 82M, Orpheus-TTS, Sesame CSM-1B, CosyVoice 2, MeloTTS, Kitten TTS, StyleTTS 2, Parler-TTS and Zonos2.
It also warns that several commonly recommended open-weight models are restricted by non-commercial or usage-capped licenses, such as F5-TTS, Coqui XTTS v2, MaskGCT, IndexTTS-2, Higgs Audio v2 and Fish Speech / OpenAudio S1-mini.
The repo is MIT licensed and includes sections on streaming taxonomy, cancellation, codecs, watermarking and evaluation methodology.
