Microsoft Research released Flash versions of its pathology foundation models:
- GigaPath-Flash pairs a 22M-parameter ViT-S tile encoder with a 21M-parameter LongNet slide encoder, distilled from the original GigaPath while keeping 97% of performance.
- GigaTIME-Flash extends that stack to predict the tumor immune microenvironment directly from routine H&E images, replacing the CNN backbone in the original GigaTIME.
- It reportedly delivers better prediction quality than the original CNN-based GigaTIME while running 6× faster and using 8× less GPU memory.
