AI makes software easier to build, but it also lowers the floor on quality

A repost of the essay Quality Software argues that while AI makes software much easier to produce, the lowered barrier to entry also tends to lower quality. The author says they like AI, used it at an AI company for nearly three years, and use it daily, but believes the industry should be honest that easier creation does not automatically mean better software.

The post is essentially a reminder that the current AI tooling boom changes the economics of software production, but not the need for taste, rigor, and quality control.
