Robot deployment data may look valuable, but narrow deployments create disconnected data islands

Chris Paxton asks how much robot deployment data is actually worth, arguing that real-world deployments may be less useful for general-purpose policies than they appear.
His core point: to make deployments succeed, teams often narrow the task so much that the resulting data becomes a set of disconnected “islands” tied to specific scenarios. That data may help a deployed system perform one job well, but it does not necessarily transfer to new tasks or improve generality.
