Chinese AI companies are still making real contributions, despite no o1-level breakthrough

While they have not produced an “o1-level” breakthrough, they are still making meaningful contributions—and doing so increasingly over time. It’s a broad, qualitative observation rather than a data-heavy analysis, but the point is that Chinese AI firms should not be dismissed as stagnant or derivative.
