Keep feeding the soil for fundamental research

In response to the ROI discussion, the author argues that many more ideas are still seeding and growing outside the spotlight.
Their conclusion is that academia and fundamental research should keep being “fertilized,” because the next meaningful breakthroughs often begin as small ideas that are not yet visible in the market or hype cycle.
