Ex-Stability AI Founder on Kimi's Compute Cost Paradox

rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-07-20

Former Stability AI co-founder Emad Mostaque highlights an AI development "paradox": although much model R&D has shifted to China (e.g., Moonshot's Kimi), US companies (like Modal and Fireworks) can provide inference services at one-tenth the cost of Chinese rivals due to their access to advanced Nvidia and AMD chips.

He emphasized that once models are optimized for next-gen hardware (like Nvidia's Rubin architecture), operational costs could drop by 10 to 100 times.
