Open vs Closed Source Models: Tension and Balance

Regarding Dean W. Ball's view that "open-weight models slightly accelerate diffusion but, by raising the bar for massive capital, actually slow development," Beff Jezos agreed. He noted a balance: without expected revenue, companies lack incentive to train huge models; but if only closed-source models remain, the market risks oligopoly. A delicate balance between open and closed source is needed.
