Building a 3D Card Game From Scratch With Claude Code
Animelustcom · reddit · 2026-07-19
The author shares their process of building a 3D card game, Darcnia Monster, from scratch using Claude Code. The goal isn't just to show off the game, but to demonstrate a "vibe coding" workflow. Their process: conducting deep research first, then organizing the findings into a "master TCG designer" skill to maintain card design consistency. The early skeleton was generated using Fable, then handed over to Claude Code to handle main development in Godot. Claude built the 3D board, grid system, card interactions, and the state machine driving animations, sounds, and effects. The author manually reviewed and corrected the course after each long task to prevent drift. The game itself is a 3D TCG where "cards come alive": characters appear with pixel-art animations when summoned and lunge forward when attacking. Art, music, and voiceovers were created using other tools, and the author used Claude to integrate these assets into the overall state machine. The project is currently in testing, with a Discord server and free alpha available.
