How AI Will Actually Eradicate Fraud
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-07-18
The author argues that AI will drastically alter the current landscape of rampant fraud across industries, driven by its powerful pattern recognition capabilities.
Traditional business systems have proven inadequate against constantly evolving fraudulent tactics, such as loan fraud and government subsidy scams. AI, however, excels at sifting through massive volumes of transactions to detect subtle patterns and historical correlations that humans and legacy systems miss. This capability gap is decisive.
The author compares this to the deterrent effect of surveillance cameras on crime: once fraud is detected at scale and perpetrators are held accountable, fraudulent activities will significantly decrease. While fraud may never drop to absolute zero, AI will completely turn the tide, causing the cost and risk of committing such acts to skyrocket.
