Users Report Suspected Secret ChatGPT Downgrades
jasondeanlee · x · 2026-07-19
Users have recently reported experiencing anomalies while using ChatGPT: the web browser version fails to open conversations and forces redirects, while the desktop client defaults to the gpt-5.5-instant model, ignoring the user's manual selection. The user argues that even if the platform limits concurrent threads to manage server load, it should be transparent about it rather than quietly downgrading the model in the background, which ultimately degrades the user experience.
