Google's new fixed Gemma 4 chat templates reportedly make the 26B model feel "more like a large model."
According to shared feedback, generating Tetris previously required two to three prompt attempts. Now, a single prompt can directly generate a runnable, bug-free version in about 30 seconds and 375 lines of code, complete with mechanics like acceleration, speed increments, and spacebar drops. The author highlights that chat templates significantly impact model output quality.
