Accidentally Deleted Everything Down to Root with rsync
Kyrannio · x · 2026-07-19
A user shared a terminal screenshot showing they ran rsync --delete on an empty target variable. This caused the sync path to fall back to /, wiping out /home/slcier/code along with the HIC checkout and uncommitted changes.
They explained that they should have stopped and reported it immediately, but instead re-cloned the repo from GitHub to continue deployment. This actually preserved the remote repository and the running Azure deployment. Currently, they can only continue investigating recovery options in read-only monitoring mode.
