Rebuttal: Open Weights Are AI's Biggest Accelerator

Strongly pushing back against the notion that open-weight models are inherently slowing down industry progress, the author argues that open-source models are actually the biggest tech accelerators. The more people tackling problems, the faster the industry evolves.
The author points out that nearly all developers outside top-tier labs are building applications based on Qwen, and even major tech giants are following suit: for instance, Nvidia's Nemotron is fine-tuned from Qwen, and Inkling is post-trained on Kimi.
