Exaggerated Joke on Open Source Models and Compute Funding

teortaxesTex · x · 2026-07-19

This is an escalation of the "open weight communism" meme: pushing "how to finance 1GW, 10GW, 100GW clusters" all the way to terawatt clusters, paired with an exaggerated tone like a "$100000 subscription fee" and "won't be solved until 2030."

It is essentially poking fun at: if open-source models are pushed to the extreme, who will ultimately pay for the compute and capital. It's heavily tongue-in-cheek, but perfectly magnifies the current contradictions surrounding open-source models, ultra-large clusters, and business models.
