Jeff Dean Explains the Origin of the TPU Pod Name

Jeff Dean explained the origins of the TPU "pod" moniker.
He noted that a pod originally referred to a large cluster of TPUs tightly connected via high-speed custom networks; the codename for the first generation of TPUs was Jellyfish. Because subsequent generations would also feature a series of marine life names, the team felt the word pod was more appropriate.
