LeCun on Open Weights and Kimi's Performance

Yann LeCun responded that Linux and the internet succeeded precisely because they were "ungovernable" and open; open-weight foundation models for AI will follow the exact same principle.
The post he replied to also noted that Kimi is a very strong model, appearing nearly on par with the best public models from Q1 2026 in agentic coding scenarios. However, it seems to consume a massive amount of tokens and might not be as cheap as the public assumes.
