AI Prototype for Satellite Collision Risk
notmehh_ · reddit · 2026-07-18
This is a prototype project named Viyan, built for a space hackathon, aiming to create an AI system for satellite collision risk assessment and decision support.
The project pipeline includes:
- Satellite data management
- Orbit simulation
- Future close-event detection
- Collision risk assessment
- ML-based prediction layer
- Decision and negotiation framework
- A backend API connecting all modules
The author notes that the biggest challenge wasn't any single module, but reliably integrating simulation, machine learning, databases, and APIs within the hackathon's time constraints. The team tackled compatibility and dependency issues through modularization, layered validation, and incremental integration.
The current prototype successfully runs the full pipeline: satellite info → simulation → risk analysis → prediction → recommended actions. Future goals include real-time orbit data integration, autonomous satellite agent negotiation, advanced space traffic management models, and explainable AI for transparent decision-making.
