Claude Fable 5 Returns to Subscription Plans
Simon Willison · rss · 2026-07-18
Simon Willison relayed updates regarding Claude accounts: Claude Fable 5 is no longer API-only and is being reintegrated into subscription plans.
Specific changes include:
- Starting July 20, Fable 5 will be included in Max and Team Premium plans but capped at a 50% usage limit.
- Pro and Team Standard users can still access Fable through their regular usage allowances.
- These two user tiers will also receive a one-time $100 credit.
He believes this indicates Anthropic's initial plan to remove Fable 5 from subscriptions and make it API-only was unsustainable, driven by pressure from GPT-5.6 Sol and potentially Kimi 3. He also speculates that Anthropic may need to adjust its training allocation, dedicating more GPUs to model serving.
