LLM Investments Are Hard to Protect Long-Term
burkov · x · 2026-07-18
The author argues that investments in the LLM space are almost impossible to protect long-term:
- Capital will continue to flow into training stronger models.
- Research breakthroughs will be distilled, reused, and further improved by others.
- In a tech race of this massive scale, this characteristic of being "distillable and iterable" is extremely rare.
The core conclusion is that increased funding and research will simply continue to elevate the capabilities of the overall model ecosystem.
