According to CNBC, the White House has launched a mechanism named "Gold Eagle" to bring the release and access of frontier AI models under a government approval process.
The report notes that releasing new models to specific companies or partners may require explicit government approval in the future. However, the White House stated that it will not approve private companies' AI releases, nor will AI companies be required to collaborate with the government.
