Kimi-K3 Tops API Development Leaderboard

A repost reveals that Kimi-K3 has taken the #1 spot on the API development leaderboard, surpassing Claude Fable 5; its previous version was ranked 18th.
Another crucial piece of information: weights are scheduled to be open-sourced on July 27.
The poster used this to discuss a broader perspective: the leading edge of frontier AI is being rapidly erased, and open or low-cost models will catch up in a matter of months or even weeks. This diminishes two major concerns:
- Monopoly: It's hard to maintain long-term control over an intelligence advantage that gets leveled so quickly
- Sovereignty: With alternative open models available everywhere, it's hard to be bottlenecked by a single provider
