On-Device Inference is a Must for Home Robots

The author concludes that for home robots, on-device inference is not optional.
They explain why this issue only truly manifests when three conditions are met simultaneously:
- The robot is already capable of fully autonomous operation;
- Evaluation takes place in real, unseen homes;
- The policy itself is reliable enough that network latency becomes the primary cause of failure.
Before these conditions are met, the team didn't even have the chance to expose the problem. The author also stresses that the team's ability to execute this architectural switch relied heavily on full-stack engineering experts.
