Home Robots Must Use Edge Inference
chichengcc · x · 2026-07-18
The author explains why they firmly believe edge inference is non-negotiable for home robots. The issue only becomes apparent when the following conditions are met simultaneously:
- The robot is already highly autonomous
- Evaluation happens in real, unseen home environments
- The control policy is reliable enough that network latency becomes the primary point of failure
Before reaching this stage, the team might not even see the real bottlenecks preventing the product from entering the mainstream market.
