Reuters: AI Chatbots Are Entering the News Gateway

The Reuters 2026 Digital News Report reveals that global news consumption continues to shift toward platforms: social media and video networks have officially overtaken news websites and TV as the primary news source, accounting for 54%.
The report also notes that the demographic using AI chatbots for news grew from 7% to 10%, reaching 16% among those under 35. Furthermore, 27% of respondents source news from creators/influencers. Meanwhile, trust in the news has plummeted to an all-time low of 37%. Based on this, the author concludes that AI chatbots are rapidly becoming the new frontier for news distribution.
