Kimi K3 Demos 48-Hour Chip Design

This blog showcases an extreme proof of concept: using Kimi K3 for chip design.
During a 48-hour autonomous run, K3 used open-source EDA tools and the Nangate 45nm process library to design, optimize, and verify a nano model chip tailored to its own architecture.
Reported results include:
- Chip area under 4 mm²
- Timing closure at 100 MHz
- Decode throughput exceeding 8,700 tokens/s in simulation
- Integration of 1.46M standard cells, 0.277 MB SRAM, and an INT4 MAC array with fused dequantization
The author views this as a "chip designed by a model for a model," highlighting K3's long-range agentic capabilities.
