Following the massive open-source success of Kimi founder Yang Zhilin, his former CMU advisor tweeted congratulations. Y Combinator President Garry Tan and others reposted, pointing out that rigid US visa policies are a key reason why AI startups like Kimi/Moonshot are born in China instead of the US. He criticized the US for failing to grant green cards to every AI PhD graduate, calling the brain drain policy incredibly foolish.
