Their latest technical blog, based on 499 completed run summaries across 3 benchmarks and 4 target models, summarizes several updates on agent self-optimization. A key takeaway is that gating doesn't inherently boost performance. In some comparisons, the "Accept Every Edit" strategy matched or exceeded the full gating baseline. However, the authors emphasize that these results involve multiple variable changes, so it shouldn't be simply concluded that "removing gating is always better."
