Intelligence as Computational Efficiency

The author defines intelligence as the ability to effectively apply compute to a problem.
They further point out that while the smartest models often cost more per token, they can be cheaper in terms of total task cost on harder tasks. In other words, one shouldn't just look at the per-token price, but the overall efficiency of completing the task.
