AI is driving a wave of historical discoveries, which has already been applied to classical texts and archaeological research:
- AI has decoded the full text of 2,000-year-old scrolls buried by Mount Vesuvius, revealing a lost Stoic philosophical work and a previously unknown piece by Philodemus.
- After deciphering another scroll from the same library, researchers pinpointed Plato's exact burial site, with the text even detailing his final night.
- Using handwriting recognition models, scholars now believe parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls are 50 to 100 years older than previously thought, potentially bringing the Book of Daniel closer to the time of its authorship.
- AI also pieced together a 250-line Babylonian hymn by matching 30 fragments scattered across global museums.
