x402 Lets Agents Pay Directly for Data Access
Timwal123 · reddit · 2026-07-16
Script Master Labs released a Data API for institutional data, claiming it to be the first data suite natively integrating the x402 protocol.
The core idea: while traditional APIs return a 401, integrating x402 allows the API to return a 402 Payment Required status along with a crypto invoice. AI agents can automatically pay for required data from their digital wallets, enabling machine-to-machine transactions without human intervention.
They offer two integration methods:
- For human developers: Traditional monthly subscriptions on the API market, granting access to 53 endpoints.
- For autonomous swarms: High-value endpoints presented as executable tasks on Virtuals ai, featuring tiered billing.
Data coverage includes options flow, SEC filings, alternative data, and compliance checks. Pricing offers a basic data bundle at $49/month, with high-value endpoints charged per use.
