Analyzing Inkling: General Reasoning in an Ultra-Compact Size

nrehiew_ · x · 2026-07-16

A blogger analyzed the newly released Inkling model. Capability-wise, it targets general-purpose applications rather than acting purely as a code agent, aligning perfectly with the Tinker platform's business model—a strategy similar to Cohere. Design-wise, its typography and color scheme are reminiscent of Anthropic's Claude.

The blogger also pointed out that despite being roughly 3.5 times smaller than its peers, Inkling small delivers outstanding performance. Benchmark comparisons show that while large models still hold an edge in tasks requiring massive capacity like TerminalBench and Simple QA, "reasoning" capabilities can seemingly be compressed into such an ultra-compact model.
