Ex-Researcher Exposes DeepMind's AI Militarization

Former Google DeepMind researcher TurnTrout published a detailed account of his reasons for leaving, accusing Google of betraying its founding principles by selling AI technologies to the military without restrictions on "lethal autonomous weapons" and "mass surveillance."
He revealed that he organized a petition signed by over 250 employees, urging Chief Scientist Jeff Dean to oppose the move and calling on the company to support Anthropic. He criticized Demis Hassabis for claiming that "principles haven't changed" while personally participating in revising Google's AI principles to remove the weapons ban. He lamented that in the face of profit and power, the defenses of most institutions and ethicists ultimately collapsed.
