Mayo Clinic Faces Lawsuit Over High AI Error Rates

A former Mayo Clinic AI compliance official is suing the hospital, claiming she was fired for raising concerns about AI tools. The most severe allegations in the lawsuit include an error rate of up to 67% for the hospital's internal digital assistant, MAYA, with employees allegedly deleting or altering results to mask its actual performance.
Additionally, the lawsuit claims a high-risk cardiac surgery device was approved without the required oversight from the review board. When the whistleblower raised concerns, management allegedly stated that fixing the issues would "harm competitive advantage." She was subsequently demoted and terminated while on medical leave.
