Claude Ecosystem Clashes in Compatibility Glitch
Steve_Yegge · x · 2026-07-16
Steve Yegge detailed a glitch akin to "two products fighting over the same doorbell":
- After restarting Chrome, an extension accidentally launched the Claude Desktop bridge helper—twice, in fact.
- The root cause was that Desktop left behind a native-host manifest that continued to occupy the same extension ID.
- Consequently, while Claude Code's own host could be launched manually without issue, the extension found the "imposter with the same name" first. The CLI would ultimately report "extension not connected," giving no indication that an impersonation had occurred.
He summarized the ordeal by saying that bringing Claude Code and Claude in Chrome near each other results in an absurd pairing disaster.
