UK Updates AI Biosecurity Governance Plan

The UK government has released the "UK Biological Security Strategy: Implementation Report, July 2025 - July 2026." The report indicates that the government is still deciding whether to make nucleic acid synthesis screening guidance a statutory requirement.
The report also includes several AI-related biosecurity initiatives:
- Commissioning a second AISI Frontier Trends Report with a focus on biological capabilities;
- Planning to research legislation addressing the dual-use risks of AI-enabled biological capabilities;
- Considering statutory protections for genomic data;
- Expanding threat models to include poisoned biological datasets, interference in automated/networked labs, and related cyber risks.
Furthermore, the report mentions "mirror biology" and reiterates the importance of biotechnology literacy training for non-specialists.
