Cognition Reflects on One Year of Windsurf Acquisition

Cognition reviewed its first year since acquiring Windsurf. Following a rapid post-merger integration phase, the company launched Wave 11, embracing a "Just Keep Shipping" ethos.
Over the past year, Cognition rolled out proprietary models, Devin Review, and Devin CLI, consolidating its offerings under Devin Desktop. The team wrote over 20 million lines of code, and revenue run rate surged from $73 million to over $500 million.
The acquisition proved highly synergistic: Windsurf brought strong GTM capabilities and a massive developer base but lacked engineering bandwidth, whereas Cognition excelled in engineering but needed GTM. With Windsurf focusing on the IDE and Cognition on cloud Agents, their strategic directions aligned perfectly.
