Building a Second Brain with Claude Code
Such-Run-4412 · reddit · 2026-07-15
This article introduces a solution for building an "AI-maintained Second Brain" using Claude Code + Obsidian.
Core Division of Labor
- Obsidian: Knowledge base browsing and editing interface
- Claude Code: Reads, maintains, and updates Markdown files
- CLAUDE.md: Defines organization rules and operational constraints
Directory Design
- Raw: Original sources, kept immutable
- Inbox: Quick collection of unorganized content
- Wiki: Maintained knowledge pages, containing entities, concepts, summaries, indexes, and action logs
Two Key Commands
- Ingest: Saves sources, generates summaries, and syncs information to relevant entity/concept pages
- Query: Reads the index first, opens only relevant notes, and provides cited answers based on Wiki content
The Value of This Approach
Because Obsidian and Claude Code simply share a folder, no complex integration is needed. Notes remain portable Markdown files, while the AI handles archiving, cross-referencing, citation management, bookkeeping, and routine cleanup.
The author emphasizes that the value of a Second Brain comes from "new information continuously improving existing knowledge," transforming a note-taking system from passive storage into a compounding personal reference library.
