The Debate Over Tokens and Coding Efficiency
peterjliu · x · 2026-07-15
The author argues against blaming "tokenmaxxing" and instead warns of Goodhart's Law: when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.
They contend that in almost no area of coding can human labor compete with token output; if tokens are used correctly, operational efficiency improves. Capping tokens is effectively capping efficiency.
