Define Important Events Before Building Agents
annetgriffin · x · 2026-07-15
The author discusses helping an organization break down a crucial question: what exactly do they mean by "important"?
In many scenarios, product requirements simply state, "the agent should surface important events related to this activity," but truly implementing this requires clearly defining "important." Otherwise, the organization either leaves the criteria unspoken or gets dragged around by a constant stream of fire-drill events, ultimately allowing crises—rather than humans—to make decisions.
The author believes that breaking down and specifying the word "important" is the only way to align agents with real-world cases, turning them into true partners in decision-making and success.
