HoYoverse Launches Desktop AI Companion Olivia

HoYoverse has launched a desktop AI companion named Olivia, which can play the piano while you work and exchange letters with users, hitting 100,000 downloads on its first day.
The post highlights its GTM strategy: Olivia first appeared on Bilibili as a "virtual piano girl" months before launch, building a dedicated fanbase through letter exchanges to ensure a built-in audience upon release. Her persona is highly detailed—a piano major at Shanghai University with a psychology minor, who loves old movies and rainy days.
The author concludes that AI products with a character-first approach, clear IP, and a cohesive worldview are much more likely to gain traction and user empathy than generic, personality-less agents.
