Local Markdown Browser Extension Launched
equixankit · reddit · 2026-07-15
The author created a free browser extension that runs Python via WASM/Pyodide directly in the browser to convert PDF/Excel/DOCX locally to Markdown before feeding it to models like ChatGPT, Claude, and DeepSeek.
The motivation is that tossing raw files into a chat wastes context windows and poses privacy risks. This solution keeps files strictly local and slashes the token usage of a typical PDF from roughly 30k down to 8k. The project is MIT open-source and live on the Chrome Web Store.
