Apple Proposes Multilingual Music Search
Apple ML Research · rss · 2026-07-14
Apple ML Research detailed a multilingual semantic retrieval system for Apple Music search. Apple Music spans over 150 storefronts, supports dozens of languages, and adds hundreds of thousands of songs daily. At this scale, recall for typos, transliterations, and cross-language queries significantly impacts the majority of long-tail search experiences.
Their proposed solution is a 305-million-parameter Siamese bi-encoder: fine-tuned based on GTE-multilingual-base and trained using a multi-objective curriculum. This model has been integrated into Apple Music's search stack to improve retrieval recall and overall session quality.
